Volunteer: Help carry the flag for Jane's Walk

Jane's Walk Ottawa is bigger than ever this year, and with all these new walks, we need volunteers to help as marshals. There are other roles to fill as well (see the list below).

To prepare for a successful event we are looking for some help. Here's what we're looking for:

Pre-walk promotion

Promote walks through Facebook, email lists, local media by writing articles, emailing people, generally getting the word out.

Postering

Help us advertise by covering your neighborhood in Jane's Walk posters. We'll provide the posters, you provide the postering skills! 

If you'd like to advertise a walk of particular interest in your neighbourhood, visit our poster maker page, and create a poster for that specific walk.

Walk Marshal

Our largest need is for Volunteer Marshals to help manage walking groups. Marshals help Jane's Walk run smoothly by assisting the walk leader to manage the group, carry flags and count heads. Marshaling is easy, and a marshal also gets to enjoy the walk experience as a participant. Marshals read a short introduction to Jane's Walk and the walk leader and carry our nifty flag so people can see where the group is going. They keep the group together, keep an eye on safety and serve as the point of contact with the festival organizers. We provide a marshal kit and a training session to learn about the festival and this role (tentatively scheduled for April 21st).

We request that you volunteer for at least 2 walks. We try to assign everyone to their preferred walks.

Wrap up party

Decorate the venue, greet people at doors, hand out info about Jane's Walk.

Photographers

Social Media Photographers: If you have a good eye and people seem to love your Instagram or Twitter; help us out the weekend of the festival. Similar to our walk marshals, you will be assigned to walks to take photos and share content on social media.

Photo Album Photographers: If you have some photography and editing experience (and access to editing software) we need both during the festival and on Thursday May 3rd PM for our launch event photo booth. We will use these photos to both document the festival as well as for future years promotional material.
